About Ian Maurer

I worked for 28 years in the telecommunications industry as a design engineer, computer programmer and manager. In my spare time for most of this period I also ran a professional wedding and portrait photography business. After leaving these occupations, I worked for a time as a design engineer in a small mining engineering services company before leaving to start up this private tutoring business in 2005.

I have been continuously involved in tutoring high school and university students since that time, and find it to be a very challenging and rewarding way to earn a living. As I wanted to keep the business small and personal, all tuition is done by me. I don’t employ other tutors, but can refer you to others if I am booked out.

I have always had a love of photography, and have pursued it either as a hobby or a business since the age of eight. Having pensioned off my large format film cameras and joined the digital age, I launched my photography website in 2010. It’s had a recent makeover, and I add new and historic images to it when I get time.

My other lifelong passion is music, being a keen amateur singer and occasional composer, mainly of works in the classical genre, although I appreciate music in a wide variety of forms. I have performed solos in musical comedy and have sung in choirs all my life. Feel free to check out performances of my pieces here.
