Tuition Style

My way of working is fairly laid back. I’m not an ex-teacher. I invite students to call me by my first name. I like to mix fun with hard work.
My aim is to get students to become independent thinkers, and by doing so, learn to enjoy the challenges which math problems present.
Maths is very much a confidence subject. It’s not always the case that a confident student will solve a difficult problem. But the reverse is almost always true – a student who does not feel confident in their ability will very seldom succeed when faced with an unfamiliar problem.
I also emphasise that they most likely will not improve their results merely by sitting beside me for one hour a week. They need to do a bit of practice. I give them tips on how to minimise the time but maximise the benefit obtained from extra study.
